This project presents a valuable use case of the smartphone GPS sensor. By storing user locations, we are able to create an application that dramatically simplifies communication between employers and applicants. Utilizing a suite of AWS microservices and Google Maps, we are able to push notifications to users and display their locations in a useful way. We hope that this project can serve as a foundation to a useful application in the future.
The baseline application is functional, but there is room for improvement. With additional time and resources, we could implement a few additional features. Specifically, storing company information could enhance the app experience for applicants. We could display them on the map with relevant information about that company, making it easier for applicants to learn more about their potential workplaces. Additionally, we would like to add a recommendation system to streamline selecting convenient meeting locations as well as recommending companies and applicants based on previous choices. A machine learning approach such as collaborative filtering could be used to achieve this task, provided there existed a large enough user base.
